The macro-urban analysis, the examination of the local context and the considerations of the Client suggest a permeable, green and capable proposal to reactivate an area that at this moment seems to be marginal despite its central and strategic position.
The new primary school will be located near the other schools and arrange the residential and commercial volumes on via Lambro. The market, which would occupy one third of the area, will be distributed on the main communication routes in order to leave most of the lot in the park.
The strategy of the intervention consists in the creation of two attracted cycle and pedestrian axes on which the stalls of the widespread market are grafted and at whose main intersection the school is positioned. On the East-West axis the purely school part develops while on the other axis there is the entrance to the civic center that leads to the library, the 400-seat multifunctional space and the gym. In the east quadrant of the project area, near Via Lambro there are 9,000 m2 of residential with 1000 m2 of commercial space on the ground floor.
THE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Both in the didactic part and in the one for mixed use, the connective space is not only a distributive element, but a flexible space, always illuminated by natural light and characterized by the insertion of plants and trees. This space is intended to be a covered agora, a place of movement and rest that relates seamlessly to the outside.
The functional volumes that characterize the building are arranged around this nucleus as shown in the diagram on the left.
Outside the school complex, the pedestrian flow of educators and students and the driveway for loading and unloading are identified. The two streams are separate and autonomous to ensure the safety of children.
The systems are ordered and assembled in strategic compartments to facilitate their operation and maintenance.
