Preliminary project
Studio GPP
750.000 euros
The project was born from the 2020-2021 regeneration initiative promoted by the Emilia Romagna Region with the aim of regenerating disused or underused public buildings. The current configuration of the building is not revolutioned but externally the main work is being done on the remodeling of the roof which becomes the architectural symbol of the intervention. The key points of the project are the flexibility of the interior spaces for the required and future uses, the creation of well-organized internal functional areas, the involvement of residents for the management of the building and to create useful services for citizens and tourists, the achievement of maximum energy efficiency and the inclusion of public green spaces and works of art.
The intervention is based on the concept of union and integration translated into a social project that will develop between this building and other realities already present in the country. The parish priest’s hypothesis of hosting teenagers in precarious conditions in the building adjacent to this one, is combined with the mayor’s desire to host 3 elderly citizens in the new building who will take care of the management of the planned activities including looking after the children by exercising non only the baby-sitting function but also the transmission of local traditions and culture.
The maximum flexibility of use is guaranteed with the planimetric simplification of the internal structure compared to the current state. An elevator was added to break down architectural barriers and a central core was created that is visually separated from the internal load-bearing wall. The existing staircase will be demolished by replacing it with a new one in accordance with the law. The new spaces are also flexible from the plant engineering point of view to facilitate a possible change of functional use of the different areas.
