FLOATING GREENHOUSE
preliminary design
The world population has just reached 7 billions of inhabitants, 90% are in the Boreal hemisphere and 10% in the Austral one. The cultivable ground request is growing larger every day also if they use it in a dif- ferent way, for example to produce vegetable fuels in the agricultural areas.
This project has born from an idea of Paolo Galli, professor of marine biology in the University of Milano Bicocca and it propose to solve the food production problem without using those agricultural areas.
That’s a sort of floating modular greenhouse built with prefab elements that are normally used to make jetties in the docks.
Its shape protects the cultivation from the wind and the waves. Furthermore the flexible union of its modules permits an infinite development.
That project has been thought for building an experimental prototype for the Maldives Government with the financial support of some resorts. The greenhouse is exposed in the Coop space in EXPO2015 as an example of sustainable food production.
