E. fermi School Rehabilitation
The existing school is a rational building that presents a rich volumes composition. Its concrete structure defines the facades alternating the voids of the windows with the surfaces in red bricks.
The project proposes to empty the existing and obsolete mass and a following filling with some wooden volumes that are inserted in the structural skeleton.
The proposal suggests a meeting between past and present like a story in a story which target is not
owning the space but butoccupying it temporarily. The building doesn’t present a closed configuration but it leaves the possibility to modify its own disposition not just to accept the changes but to make them easier. In particular it refers to eventual future extensions that will be easy to build thanks to the division of the 4 required homogeneous areas (clusters, canteen, gym and library).
The contemporary schools have to be a cultural reference also for the citizens. For that the 4 homogeneous areas can develop their functions without any interference and they are accessible independently from outside.
