MATHS LECTURE ROOMS
Caceres
Competitive public tender, 2nd prize
with Alvaro Ortiz for Magenta s.a.
The University of Caceres promoted this competition for designing and building some new lecture rooms in the mathematics department.
The project rigorously satisfies the functional requirements (especially regarding the position of the rooms and the bio-climatic studies) and proposes a ring building that folds up on itself as to remind the Möebius surface or the Oscar Reutersvärd’s impossible geometries.
The volumetry follows the contour lines of the hills, and encloses a big internal green space that can counterbalance the high summer temperatures of Extremadura.
The main central space hosts the hall with a large panoramic glass wall that overlooks the fields, while the rest of the building has been destined to several lecture rooms of different shapes and sizes.
