School in casatenovo
Casatenovo (Lecco)
Competition, 1st prize and detailed project
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
The volume of the building is generated by the transformation of the traditional courtyard farm that has been adapted to the program, to the landscape and to the existing trees.
The proposal presents a clear and intuitive functional organization that is developed around the courtyard and that divides the didactic zone from the complementary spaces. For a better comfort the classrooms are oriented toward north while the canteen, the gym , the assembly hall and the other complementary spaces are toward south.
The parking is placed in the southern side of the area and it is 1.5m lower than the school ground floor for following the contour lines and also to not allow the view of the cars from the windows of the school.
The interior distribution has been thought to suggests 2 main flows: the student’s one and the workers one. The canteen has a separate entrance and a loading and unloading area. The didactic functions are functionally separated from the others however the ring corridors allow the students and the workers to move through the whole school.
The technical area is placed in the south with a road for the loading and unloading that doesn’t interfere with the other human and vehicular flows. Near this road there is the main technical area that is partially under the ground floor level. It is accessible from the parking and its isolated position allows the maintenance of the installations also during the the didactic activities without disturbing them.
One important characteristic of the school is its environmental friendliness that is not just an architectural guideline but also an educational hint for the students who will use it.
The school structure has been thought in wood that is not just a natural material but it also presents excellent anti-seismic proprieties and an high fire resistance.
The challenge is creating a passive building, thanks also to a geothermal plant that works with renewable energy too.
The project develops almost 4600m2.
