TIVOLI ROMAN SANCTUARY
Tivoli (Rome)
Competition, 1st prize and detailed project
with Polis s.r.l. and L. Ximenes
IDEA
The traces of spaces and shapes that overlay and mix up through the centuries is the surplus value of most historical compounds. In that area some industrial plants had been built on some ancient roman ruins, mixing up indefinitely.
The project proposes a further modification that permits to order, distinguish and preserve the different architectural layers through a critical detraction. The result is a pathway that leads the visitors to the Roman portico, the Canevari canal and part of the Segre paper factory. The old panoramic view has been restored thanks to a new roof covering that contains the technical systems in order to avoid contact with the precious archaeological ground. The internal part of the compound hosts some polyfunctional spaces and a big restoration lab.
